When performing defense system analysis with simulation models, a great deal of time and effort are expended, creating representations of real-world scenarios in U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) simulation tools.  However, once these models have been created and validated, analysts rarely retrieve all the knowledge and insights that the models may yield.  Study sponsors often limit their questions to a couple of discrete variations on a base case or a simple parametric analysis on one or two variables.  Analysts are limited to simple explorations because they do not have the time and training to perform more complex analyses manually.

The government has sponsored an optimization tool that combines advanced metaheuristic search methods and mathematical programming techniques to improve analyst effectiveness with constructive DoD simulations.  We will discuss the techniques and methods behind the technology and how it can be used as a force multiplier for analysts.

Topics covered in this webinar:

  • Simulation optimization approaches
  • The metaheuristic approach, concepts, and examples
  • Optimization software technology for government use
  • Enhancing DoD simulation analysis
